Sonic Blue

Dodge calls this color: “B5 Blue Pearl.”

Personally, I view this as a missed opportunity. Copywrite laws aside, this obviously should’ve been “Sonic” blue. Regardless, while the R/T isn’t the most powerful of the Charger line-up, it has what matters to most muscle enthusiasts: a throaty V8 up front and power to the rear wheels.

First Impressions: It’s an ostentatious brute. This is not a small car, nor is it designed for those who wish to blend in. When you take it’s size and vulgarity into account then paint it this color, it screams mid-life-crisis. And yet, by the time I was done rippin’ donuts in the Hot Rod Cafe parking lot, I couldn’t care less about the color - or my mid-life crisis.

The R/T comes standard with heated front seats, blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, an impressive Beats Audio sound system, and navigation. It’s got crispy upholstered Nappa leather accents on the inside, and slick 18” five spokes on the outside. While the exterior might convince you otherwise, this car is capable of being quite docile. It’s a smooth ride, and a surprisingly quiet one when you want it to be. This isn’t like walking a dog that constantly pulls on the leash. This is like having a dog that’ll walk beside you and behave itself right up to the point where you throw a ball and tell it to “go-fetch.”

This is a car that changes attitude like I change hats. If it was a person it’d be bi-polar. The line is somewhere between 2,500 & 3,000 RPM, and once you’re over it ya best be ready for some hooliganism.

Listen, I know you’re not buying an R/T because it has room for 4 adult passengers and most of their luggage. You’re buying an R/T because you’re still somewhere around 10 years old at heart and I’m here to tell you that’s a wonderful reason to buy a car.
